Notes & Reference
Somewhere for everything that isn't the book: ideas, research, timelines, maps. Nothing here is ever compiled.
Notes
The + next to Notes adds a note: an ordinary document for brainstorming, to-do lists, cut scenes or anything else. Notes have the full editor, including comments and resume notes.
Reference
The + next to Reference offers three kinds of item.
Text Note
A document for research: sources, quotes, facts to check. In a reference note, the table button on the Format Bar inserts a spreadsheet-style table with formulas and a total row.
Table
A reference table is a sheet of one or more tables, made for timelines, family trees, word lists and continuity notes.
- Add Table adds another table to the same sheet; each has its own title. A table's delete button asks before removing it.
- Each table has its own header and row-stripe colors.
- Right-click a cell for Cut, Copy and Paste; Set as Number or Set as Text; background and text color; a border on any side; Clear Cell Style; and Clear Cell.
- Number columns can have a Σ total row, and the formula builder adds calculations.
- Move between cells with the arrow keys.
Image
A picture to look at while you write: a map, a portrait, a photo of a place. Scroll to zoom (50% to 400%), drag to move around, and double-click or press Fit to see the whole image again. Each image has a caption.
Tips
- Open a note or reference item in Split View to keep it beside your writing.
- moves a scene into Notes (or a note into the Manuscript) without copying and pasting.
- searches notes and reference along with the manuscript.
